Helen Coffey has been The Independent's Travel Editor since 2021, having joined as the publication's deputy travel editor in 2017. She previously held roles covering travel at the Evening Standard and Express, following three years at The Telegraph as the title's Digital Ski and Snowboard Editor. Helen's particular passions include sustainable, climate-positive and slow travel. In 2020 she became the first travel editor of a national UK publication to give up flying, and her first book, a flight-free travel memoir entitled Zero Altitude: How I Learned to Fly Less and Travel More, was published in May 2022.
