Senegal le propinó otra derrota a Qatar, dejándola al borde de la eliminación en la Copa Mundial tras doblegar el viernes 3-1 a la nación anfitriona.

Los campeones africanos capitalizaron un error defensivo para abrir la cuenta y prenderse en la lucha por el pase a los octavos de final al acreditarse sus tres primeros puntos.

El delantero Boulaye Dia rubricó el primer gol luego que el zaguero qatarí Boualem Khoukhi quiso despejar un balón sin tener a un rival al acecho. Khoukhi le pegó mal a la pelota y se cayó. Dia, jugador de la Salernitana de Italia, no perdonó con un remate de derecha para el 1-0.

Famara Diedhiou puso el 2-0 al inicio de la segunda parte al cabecear un cabezazo tras un tiro de esquina.

El suplente qatarí Mohammed Muntari le dio un hilo de esperanza a los de casa al definir de cabeza a los 78. Pero Senegal restableció la ventaja de dos goles seis minutos después mediante Bamba Dieng.

Fue el primer triunfo de un seleccionado de África en este Mundial. Senegal juega sin su astro Sadio Mané, quien fue descartado por una lesión que sufrió jugando para el Bayern Múnich.

Qatar sumó su segundo derrota y quedará eliminada antes que se cumpla la primera semana del torneo si Holanda y Ecuador empatan en el otro partido del Grupo A.
