Thierry Henry dirigirá a Bélgica en el partido de la Liga de Naciones del domingo contra Holanda en reemplazo del sancionado Roberto Martínez, anunció la federación belga de fútbol el viernes.

Será el primer partido de Henry como estratega de Bélgica.

El exdelantero francés volvió a trabajar con la selección belga el año pasado después de desempeñarse como entrenador asistente entre 2016 y 2018. Se ha comprometido a desempeñar un papel de asistente permanente con el cuerpo técnico hasta después de la Copa del Mundo de este año.

Martínez fue expulsado cerca del final de la victoria de Bélgica por 2-1 sobre Gales el jueves en Bruselas. La selección belga viaja a Ámsterdam el domingo con el reto de ganar por al menos tres goles para avanzar a la final de la Liga de las Naciones.

Henry, ganador de la Copa del Mundo de 1998 con Francia, se retiró como jugador en diciembre de 2014. Su carrera como entrenador incluye períodos en el Mónaco y en el club de Montreal de la MLS.
