Cinco de los “jugadores clave” en la saga de negociación de acciones de GameStop comparecieron ante un comité del Congreso para responder preguntas sobre su papel en la tumultuosa actividad del mercado de enero.

El Comité de Servicios Financieros de la Cámara de Representantes es el primer organismo gubernamental en llamar a testigos para que testifiquen después de que los inversores minoristas se movilizaron en Reddit y compraron acciones del minorista GameStop, lo que provocó que el precio de sus acciones se disparara.

Su acción envió fondos de cobertura con posiciones cortas en busca de rescates de emergencia y llevó a la plataforma de negociación de acciones Robinhood a desconectar las transacciones futuras de las acciones por parte de sus usuarios. Desde entonces, el precio de las acciones se ha hundido de un máximo de 483 dólares a 45 dólares.

En la audiencia en Capitol Hill, los legisladores están interrogando al CEO de Robinhood, Vlad Tenev, al CEO de Reddit, Steve Huffman, al CEO de Citadel , Ken Griffin, al fundador de Melvin Capital, Gabe Plotkin y al comerciante Keith Gill, conocido como “Roaring Kitty”.

Antes de la audiencia, la representante del comité, Maxine Waters, dijo en un comunicado que analizarán detenidamente la “larga historia de conducta predatoria” de la industria de los fondos de cobertura.
