Kerry: EEUU, "comprometido" en diálogo climático con China

El enviado de Estados Unidos para el clima, John Kerry, dijo que Washington está “totalmente comprometido” en las conversaciones con China durante la cumbre climática de Naciones Unidas que se celebra en Egipto.

Kerry se reunió con el principal enviado chino, Xie Zhenhua, el martes, un indicio de la mejora de las relaciones entre las dos naciones, considerada vital para lograr avances sustanciales en la lucha contra el cambio climático. Beijing suspendió las conversaciones hace tres meses en respuesta al viaje de la presidenta de la Cámara de Representantes, Nancy Pelosi, a Taiwán.

Preguntado por el posible resultado de la cumbre, Kerry respondió: “Veremos, es un inicio tardío".

En su intervención en un acto con motivo del día sobre la biodiversidad en la conferencia, Kerry confirmó que también se reunió con el presidente electo de Brasil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, el martes.

Kerry dijo que se sintió “muy animado por la forma en que habló, de una vez por todas, de hacer las cosas bien, de unir a la gente para preservar la Amazonía".
