Yulimar Rojas voló como nunca al batir el domingo el récord mundial del salto triple para convertirse en la primera mujer venezolana que se consagra campeona en unos Juegos Olímpicos.

Imperial en la fosa del Estadio Olímpico de Tokio, Rojas saltó 15,67 metros en su sexto y último intento. Eclipsó así la plusmarca de 15,50, una que había estado en manos de la ucraniana Inessa Kravets desde 1995.

La portuguesa Patricia Mamona se llevó la medalla de plata con 15,01 metros y la española Ana Peleteiro obtuvo el bronce con 14,87. La colombiana Catherine Ibargüen, defensora del título, quedó décima con 14,25,

Rojas voló de entrada en la final, avisando sus intenciones con un récord olímpico de 15,41.

Culminada su apoteósica gesta, Rojas reaccionó exuberante, saltando de alegría. La venezolana de 25 años se quedó viendo la pantalla gigante que mostraba “WORLD RECORD” y corrió. Luego se arropó con la bandera de su país y se abrazó con Peleteiro.
