Justin Verlander ponchó a 10 en seis entradas sólidas para registrar su 12da victoria, la mayor cantidad en las mayores, y los Astros de Houston aplastaron el sábado 5-0 a los Atléticos de Oakland.

Martín Maldonado pegó un grand slam en la segunda entrada mientras que los líderes de la División Oeste de la Liga Americana se recuperaron tras sufrir una derrota por 5-1 en el primer juego de la serie el viernes. Los Atléticos superaron en hits a Houston por 7-6, pero no hicieron mucho daño con ello.

Verlander (12-3) permitió seis imparables y no entregó pasaportes, reduciendo su efectividad a 1.89, que lo coloca en el tercer puesto de los mejores lanzadores de las mayores. Phil Maton, Hector Neris y Bryan Abreu lanzaron cada uno una entrada sin anotaciones para completar la blanqueada contra el equipo que tiene la peor foja de la Liga Americana.

Verlander, que lidera a los jugadores en activo con la mayor cantidad de ponches, ya suma 3.121 en su carrera, superando los 3.116 de Curt Schilling y los 3.117 de Bob Gibson para colocarse en el 14to sitio de la lista de todos los tiempos.
