La número uno mundial Iga Swiatek se bajó del Abierto de Madrid debido a una molestia en el brazo derecho.

Swiatek, quien ha enlazado cuatro títulos, iba a ser el máxima cabeza de serie del cuadro femenino del torneo en arcilla que se pone en marcha esta semana.

“Llegó el momento de cuidar mi brazo que me molesta desde el Abierto de Miami y no he tenido tiempo de ocuparme de ello como es debido”, dijo la polaca de 20 años. “Necesito tomar una pausa tras jugar intensamente para poder cuidar bien mi brazo”.

Swiatek se coronó el domingo en el Abierto de Stuttgart, añadiendo ese títulos a los que atrapó en Doha, Indian Wells y Miami. Mantiene una racha de 23 victorias.

“Mi cuerpo necesita descanso", dijo. “Tengo que tomar algo de tiempo para prepararme para Roma y París. Ojalá pueda jugar en Madrid muchas veces en el futuro”.

La española Paula Badosa es la segunda preclasificada en Madrid.
