Un juez desestimó el viernes el caso contra cinco sospechosos acusados del asesinato del reconocido boxeador puertorriqueño Héctor “Macho” Camacho, ocurrido en 2012.

La determinación del juez llegó después de que las autoridades indicaron que el testigo principal de cargo había abandonado la isla.

Los fiscales solicitaron una segunda oportunidad de exponer su caso, al afirmar que habían tenido contacto con autoridades del estado de Florida para solicitarles ayuda, pues creen que el testigo se encuentra ahora ahí.

El fallo se presenta tres meses después de que el Departamento de Justicia de Puerto Rico anunció con bombo y platillo las acusaciones en contra de los cinco sospechosos.

Ello marcó la primera vez que alguien era acusado, a casi una década del asesinato. Las autoridades dijeron en su momento que otros dos sospechosos murieron en eventos no relacionados.

Camacho, de 50 años, recibió un disparo en la cara en noviembre de 2012 mientras se encontraba sentado junto con un amigo en un Ford Mustang afuera de un bar.

Se determinó clínicamente que había sufrido muerte cerebral, pero permaneció varios días conectado a un respirador, mientras sus familiares debatían los pasos a seguir.
