Bruce Buck, quien había fungido como presidente de Chelsea desde 2003, renunciará al cargo tras el cambio de dueños del club de la Liga Premier.

Chelsea informó el lunes que Buck “continuará brindando apoyo al club como alto asesor".

Chelsea fue vendido el mes pasado por 2.500 millones de libras (3.200 millones de dólares), la cifra más cara pagada por un equipo deportivo — a un consorcio encabezado por Todd Boehly, codueño de los Dodgers de Los Ángeles.

La venta marcó el final de la exitosa etapa de 19 años de Roman Abramovich, el oligarca ruso que se vio forzado a vender el club en marzo tras ser sancionado por el gobierno británico, algo que justificaron por tener complicidad en la “brutal invasión a Ucrania” ordenada por el presidente ruso Vladimir Putin.

“Bruce llevó al Chelsea Football Club a los más altos niveles del fútbol internacional y domésticos, y al mismo tiempo fomentando uno de los proyectos de responsabilidad social del deportivo", dijo Boehly. “Estamos agradecidos con Bruce por su servicio y compromiso con el club”.
