El novato Jack Suwinski, quien asistió a la escuela secundaria a 20 minutos de Wrigley Field, conectó un jonrón para romper el empate, y los Piratas de Pittsburgh derrotaron el miércoles 3-2 a los Cachorros de Chicago, quienes vieron concluida una racha de cuatro victorias.

Suwinski hizo su debut en Grandes Ligas esta temporada y comenzó el día con un promedio de bateo de .183 y dos cuadrangulares.

Con la pizarra empatada 2-2, el jardinero de 23 años, quien asistió a la Taft High School, abrió la quinta entrada con una línea contra Drew Smyly (1-5). La pelota apenas libró la barda del jardín central.

Un sencillo de Michael Chavis en la tercera acabó con la sequía de carreras de los Piratas, que quedó en 20 entradas. Habían anotado en el octavo episodio el domingo en la victoria 1-0 sobre Rojos, a pesar de no haber conectado imparable frente a Hunter Greene y Art Warren.

Después perdieron 9-0 y 7-0 en el inicio de la semana en el Wrigley Field.

Underwood y Bednar se combinaron para retirar a 11 de los últimos 15 bateadores que enfrentaron. Bednar lanzó las últimas dos entradas para apuntarse su octavo salvamento en las mismas oportunidades y preservar la victoria de Keller (1-5).
