Pelosi recibe comunión en Vaticano pese a defensa del aborto

La presidenta de la Cámara de Representantes de EEUU, Nancy Pelosi, se reúne con Francisco y recibe comunión durante una misa papal en la Basílica de San Pedro, según testigos, a pesar de su respaldo al derecho al aborto

La presidenta de la Cámara de Representantes de Estados Unidos, Nancy Pelosi, se reunió el miércoles con Francisco y recibió comunión durante una misa papal en la Basílica de San Pedro, según testigos, a pesar de su respaldo al derecho al aborto.

Pelosi asistió a la misa matutina con motivo del feriado de San Pedro y San Pablo, durante la cual el pontífice impuso la estola a los arzobispos recién consagrados. La política demócrata se sentó en una parte reservada para los diplomáticos y recibió la comunión junto al resto de los fieles, según dos personas que presenciaron el momento.

El gesto es relevante porque el arzobispo de la archidiócesis de Pelosi, el arzobispo de San Francisco Salvatore Cordileone, ha dijo que no le permitirá recibir el sacramento en la zona por su apoyo al derecho al aborto. Cordileone, un conservador, ha señalado que Pelosi debe retractarse de su respaldo al aborto o bien dejar de hablar en público de su fe católica.
