Jorge Alfaro sacó un boleto de Craig Kimbrel en el 10mo inning con dos outs y las bases llenas, y los Padres de San Diego derrotaron el martes 4-3 a los Dodgers de Los Ángeles, campeones de la División Oeste de la Liga Nacional, para quedar a cuatro victorias de su boleto a la postemporada.

Los Padres iniciaron el rally de la victoria ante Kimbrel (6-7), quien cargó con la derrota, cuando un batazo de sacrificio de Kim Ha-seong llevó al corredor automático José Azocar a tercera. Juan Soto recibió un boleto intencionado, Manny Machado fue ponchado y Brandon Drury logró un pasaporte que llenó las bases. Alfaro agotó entonces el conteo antes de recibir el pase por bolas definitivo que llevó a Azocar al plato.

Pierce Johnson (1-1) lanzó una 10ma entrada perfecta para la victoria.

Los Padres se acercan a su primer boleto de playoffs en una temporada completa desde 2006, cuando ganaron en el Oeste de la Nacional por segundo año consecutivo. Les ayudó la derrota de los Cerveceros de Milwaukee por 6-2 ante San Luis. San Diego tiene una ventaja de dos juegos y medio sobre Filadelfia en la lucha por el segundo wild card.

Por los Padres, el dominicano Juan Soto de 3-1. El colombia Jorge Alfaro de 0-0, con una remolcada. El venezolano José Azocar de 4-0, con una anotada.
