El número dos del español Pep Guardiola en el Manchester City se fue para convertirse en técnico del club qatarí Al-Sadd.

Juanma Lillo se unió al City en junio de 2020 al sumarse al equipo dirigido por su compatriota Guardiola después de un periodo en que ambos estuvieron juntos en el club mexicano Dorados en la temporada 2005-06, cuando Guardiola era jugador y Lillo entrenador.

El City conquistó la Liga Premier inglesa en las dos campañas que Lillo trabajó con Guardiola.

“Mi tiempo en el Manchester City ha sido uno de los períodos más agradables de mi carrera”, señaló Lillo. “Trabajar junto a Pep, su cuerpo técnico y este grupo de jugadores ha sido un placer y espero haber contribuido de alguna manera al fantástico éxito que hemos disfrutado sobre la cancha”.

El director de operaciones deportivas del City, Txiki Begiristain, dijo que la “dedicación, pasión y ganas de mejorar a nuestro equipo de Lillo han sido evidentes en nuestros resultados en la cancha durante todo su tiempo con el club”.

Lillo estuvo en el conjunto chino Qingdao Huanghai antes de integrarse al City.
