Alrededor de 80.000 turistas estaban varados en el balneario chino de Sanya luego que las autoridades lo declararon un foco de COVID-19 e impusieron un confinamiento.

Las restricciones entraron en vigor el sábado por la mañana en un intento de las autoridades de frenar la propagación del coronavirus en la ciudad en la isla tropical de Hainan. El viernes había 229 casos confirmados y el sábado se reportaron otros 129.

El gobernante Partido Comunista de China se adhiere incondicionalmente a un enfoque de “cero COVID” que contradice cada vez más al resto del mundo. Un brote reciente en Shanghái se propagó tanto que las autoridades declararon en confinamiento a toda la ciudad, la mayor del país, por dos meses, atrapando a millones de personas y asestando un golpe a la economía nacional.

Las autoridades ferroviarias prohibieron las ventas de boletos en Sanya y todos los vuelos fueron cancelados el sábado.

Los turistas que desean salir de Sanya tienen que dar negativo en el virus en cinco pruebas PCR en siete días, afirmaron las autoridades.

Mientras tanto, los hoteles ofrecerán a sus huéspedes un descuento de 50% durante el confinamiento, dijo un funcionario municipal en una sesión con la prensa.

El confinamiento se produce en el pico de la temporada turística en Sanya, famosa por sus playas.
