Houston estiró a cinco su seguidilla de triunfos, la más prolongada que ha tenido en la campaña.

El jonrón de dos carreras de McCormick, por todo el jardín central en la segunda entrada, dio a los Astros la ventaja por 2-1. El boricua Maldonado siguió con un cuadrangular solitario que envió la pelota apenas por encima del muro del bosque derecho.

El venezolano García (2-1) cumplió su mejor apertura de la temporada, al tolerar dos carreras —una limpia— y dos imparables. Recetó nueve ponches, para igualar la mejor cifra de su carrera. El derecho retiró a sus últimos 15 adversarios, incluidos cinco en fila por la vía del ponche en un momento.

Phil Maton resolvió a la perfección el octavo capítulo, y el dominicano Rafael Montero retiró a los tres bateadores que enfrentó en el noveno inning, para aportar su tercer salvamento. Los lanzadores de los Astros retiraron a los últimos 21 bateadores de Detroit.

Por los Tigres, los puertorriqueños Javier Báez de 4-1, Willi Castro de 3-0. Los venezolanos Miguel Cabrera de 4-0, Harold Castro de 4-1 con una anotada. El dominicano Jeimer Candelario de 4-0 con una remolcada.

Por los Astros, el venezolano José Altuve de 3-2. Los cubanos Yordan Álvarez de 3-0, Yuli Gurriel de 4-0. El dominicano Jeremy Peña de 4-1 con una anotada. El boricua Maldonado de 3-1 con una anotada y una producida.
