Merril Kelly lanzó siete capítulos en blanco, mientras que el dominicano Ketel Marte y Nick Ahmed dispararon sendos vuelacercas en la octava entrada, para que los Diamondbacks de Arizona se impusieran el sábado 2-0 sobre los Cardenales de San Luis.

Marte abrió el octavo episodio encontrando un cambio de velocidad de Miles Mikolas (1-1), con cuenta de 1-1. La pelota aterrizó en el bullpen, detrás del jardín derecho, para el primer jonrón del dominicano en la campaña.

Un out después, Ahmed halló una recta con cuenta de 1-1 y depositó la esférica en otro bullpen, por el lado del bosque izquierdo, para llegar a dos vuelacercas en la temporada.

Kelly (2-1) resolvió siete innings en blanco, limitando a los Cardenales a dos imparables. Recetó cuatro ponches y golpeó a un bateador.

Ha tolerado un total de cuatro carreras limpias en sus primeras cinco aperturas.

Ian Kennedy expidió un boleto en el noveno inning pero preservó la blanqueada y aportó su primer salvamento.

Por los Diamondbacks, el venezolano David Peralta de 3-0. Los dominicanos Marte de 4-1 con una anotada y una producida, Sergio Alcántara de 3-1.

Por los Cardenales, el puertorriqueño Yadier Molina de 4-1. El panameño Edmundo Sosa de 2-0.
