La Copa de Maestras de la WTA que pone fin a la temporada se jugará en Fort Worth, el segundo año seguido que el torneo fue sacado de China.

La gira profesional de tenis femenino anunció el martes que la Dickies Arena en la ciudad del estado de Texas, cercana a Dallas, será el escenario del torneo que entre el 31 de octubre y el 7 de noviembre reunirá a las ocho mejores jugadoras de sencillos y las ocho mejores duplas de dobles en los rankings este año.

El certamen de 2021 debió jugarse en Shenzhen, China, pero fue trasladado a Guadalajara, México, en medio de la pandemia de coronavirus. La hispano-venezolana Garbiñe Muguraza se coronó campeona.

Luego, a fines del año pasado, la WTA dijo que no montaría torneos en China en 2022 — posiblemente en otros años — debido a la situación de Peng Shuai, una campeona de Grand Slam en dobles que acusó de agresión sexual a un ex funcionario del gobierno chino.

En su anuncio el martes, la WTA resaltó que la cita en Fort Worth es parte de un “acuerdo de un año” y que el torneo “volverá a Shenzen”.
