Nick Kyrgios se retiró el miércoles del torneo de Mallorca debido a una dolencia abdominal, justificándose en que no quiere agravar el problema en la antesala de Wimbledon.

El número 45 del ranking mundial hizo el anuncio previo a su duelo de octavos final contra Roberto Bautista Agut.

“Venía de jugar muchos partidos de exigencia y lamentablemente me levanté con dolor en mis abdominales. Fui a ver al doctor del torneo de inmediato y me recomendó no jugar esta noche", dijo el australiano. “Valoro mucho el torneo de Mallorca pero cumpliré con su recomendación y no pondré en riesgo Wimbledon la semana que viene”.

Kyrgios empleó más de dos horas para doblegar a Laslo Djere por 5-7, 7-6 (1), 7-6 (1) en la ronda anterior del torneo en superficie de césped que sirve de preparación para Wimbledon.

Kyrgios era una de las grandes atracciones en Mallorca, acompañado por el número uno mundial Daniil Medvedev y Stefanos Tsitsipas.

El griego Tsitsipas se estrenó con una victoria 6-4, 6-4 sobre el ruso Ilya Ivashka, número 40 del mundo.

Tsitsipas, sexto cabeza de serie, se las verá contra Marcos Girón, quien venció a su compatriota estadounidense Mackenzie McDonald por 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4.

Medvedev debutaba más tarde contra su compatriota ruso Aslan Karatsev.
