Angelique Kerber y Simona Halep sellaron sus pasajes para los cuartos de final del Abierto de Bad Homburg el miércoles, mientras que Sabine Lisicki continuó con su regreso triunfal.

La local Kerber, campeona defensora y tercera preclasificada de este certamen en Alemania, superó 6-2, 6-3 a Lucia Bronzetti para pactar un duelo con la francesa Alize Cornet, quien se impuso 7-6 (4), 6-4 a Tatjana Maria.

Kerber ostenta ahora una foja de 7-0 en Bad Homburg desde el año pasado, cuando este certamen debutó en la gira.

Halep doblegó 6-0, 6-3 a Tamara Zidanšek para continuar su comienzo sólido de la temporada de césped, una semana después de llegar a las semifinales en Birmingham. En su siguiente duelo, la rumana se medirá con Amanda Anisimova, quien requirió apenas de 50 minutos para derrotar 6-0, 6-2 a Ann Li en un duelo entre estadounidenses.

Bianca Andreescu, excampeona del Abierto de Estados Unidos, venció 6-4, 6-4 a Katie Swan. Se enfrentará en su siguiente compromiso a Daria Kasatkina, la primera cabeza de serie.

Lisicki ha vuelto a la Gira de la WTA, de la que fue marginada largamente por tres lesiones de rodilla. La local, alguna vez finalista de Wimbledon, llegó a los cuartos de final en un torneo de la gira por primera vez desde febrero de 2018.
