Seth Beer disparó el jonrón de la victoria, de tres carreras, en la parte baja del noveno inning y guió a los Diamondbacks de Arizona a una victoria el jueves por 4-2 sobre los Padres de San Diego.

El batazo de Beer al jardín derecho ante Craig Stammen estropeó una salida estelar del abridor de San Diego, Yu Darvish, quien lanzó seis innings en blanco antes de abandonar la lomita con un 2-0 a favor en al pizarra tras 92 lanzamientos.

Los Padres perdieron por la debacle de su bullpen en el noveno inning. San Diego mantuvo su ventaja de 2-0 hasta entonces, pero el venezolano Robert Suárez, que cargó con la derrota en su debut en la MLB, dio boletos a los dos primeros bateadores que enfrentó y golpeó a Carson Kelly para llenar las bases.

Stammen lo relevó en el montículo y lanzó de inmediato un wild pitch que habilitó la carrera de Christian Walker para el 2-1. Entonces llegó el turno de Beer quien, en su 13er turno al bate en las mayores, la sacó del parque para completar la remontada de Arizona en el Día Nacional de la Cerveza ("beer" en inglés) en Estados Unidos.

Este año, los Diamondbacks tratarán de mejorar su registro de la temporada pasada, cuando acabaron con 110 derrotas.

La victoria fue para el cerrador de Arizona, Joe Mantiply (1-0) tras trabajar la novena entrada en blanco.

Por los Padres, el curazoleño Jurickson Profar de 3-1.

Por los Diamondbacks, los dominicanos Ketel Marte de 4-0; Geraldo Perdomo de 2-0. El venezolano David Peralta de 2-0.
