Duras restricciones en Londres por el alza de los casos de coronavirus

El etíope Sisay Lemma se llevó el domingo la victoria por primera vez en el maratón de Londres mientras que la keniana Joyciline Jepkosgei se consagró en su debut en la carrera femenina.

Lemma, de 30 años y quien quedó tercero en la edición de 2020, completó la ruta en 2 horas, 4 minutos y 1 segundo. Superó por 27 segundos al keniano Vincent Kipchuma, en tanto que Mosinet Geremew figuró tercero.

Jepkosgei optó correr en Londres en vez de defender su título en Nueva York el mes próximo. La apuesta rindió dividendos al imponerse con un registro de 2 horas, 17 minutos y 43 segundos. La etíope Degitu Azimeraw quedó segunda, seguida por su compatriota Ashete Bekere.

Fue el primer maratón de Londres disputado a plenitud en más de dos años debido a la pandemia. Alrededor de 40.000 corredores tomaron la largada en Blackheath, al sureste de Londres, a la meta frente al Palacio de Buckingham en el centro de la ciudad.
