Hertha Berlín quedó con un pie en la segunda división de Alemania tras sucumbir el jueves 1-0 como local ante Hamburgo en la ida del playoff.

El gol de Ludovit Reis en el segundo tiempo en el Olympiastadion de Berlín le dio a los visitantes una tenue ventaja con miras al choque de vuelta en Hamburgo el lunes.

Reis anotó a los 57 minutos y le dio a Hamburgo su quinta victoria seguida. El centro del volante neerlandés acabó superando al portero danés Oliver Christensen, incrustándose en el segundo palo.

Christensen debutó en el arco de Hertha debido a que el titular Marcel Lotka sufrió una fractura en la nariz y una conmoción en la derrota ante Borussia Dortmund el pasado fin de semana.

El playoff enfrenta al antepenúltimo de la Bundesliga — Hertha en esta oportunidad — contra el tercero de la segunda división y el ganador competirá en la categoría de honor.

Hertha ya pasó por esto. Perdió un playoff ante Fortuna Düsseldorf y se fue a segunda división en 2012. Hamburgo sorteó dos playoffs contra Greuther Fürth en 2014 y Karlsruher SC en 2015.

Hamburgo había sido el único equipo en disputar cada temporada de la primera división desde que la Bundesliga se fundó en 1963. Finalmente descenso al quedar penúltimo en 2018.
