Un jonrón de Nick Gordon en la tercera entrada apoyó la labor del abridor Devin Smeltzer y los Mellizos de Minnesota evitaron ser barridos al enfriar a los bates de los Guardianes de Cleveland con una blanqueada de 1-0 el jueves.

Gordon, quien jugó en reemplazo de la estrella Byron Buxton en el jardín central, mandó una curva de Zach Plesac (3-4) en cuenta de 1-2 al otro lado del muro del jardín central.

Los Guardianes no pudieron anotar contra un bullpen de Minnesota en apuros después de llenar la casa sin outs en la séptima entrada, tener corredor en segunda base con un out en la octava y poner a otro corredor en la segunda con un out en la novena. Caleb Thielbar registró su primer salvamento al ponchar al bateador emergente Steven Kwan para terminar el partido.

Cleveland sufrió el quinto descalabro en sus últimos 22 juegos. Los Guardianes (36-29) lideran por puntos porcentuales la División Central de la Liga Americana, habiendo jugado seis partidos menos que los Mellizos (39-32). Los dos equipos tienen una serie de cinco juegos la próxima semana.

Por los Mellizos, los boricuas Carlos Correa de 4-3, y José Miranda de 2-0. El colombiano Gio Urshela de 3-1. El dominicano Gary Sánchez de 4-0. El venezolano Luis Arráez de 4-0.

Por los Guardianes, el venezolano Andrés Giménez de 3-1. Los dominicanos Franmil Reyes de 4-1, Óscar González de 3-0, José Ramírez de 4-1, y Amed Rosario de 3-1.
