Gauff supera a Pliskova en Berlín y tiene pase a semifinales

Coco Gauff llegó el viernes a unas semifinales en un torneo en canchas de césped por primera vez después de vencer 7-5, 6-4 a Karolina Pliskova en el Abierto de Berlín para preparar un duelo con la tunecina Ons Jabeur.

De antemano en territorio desconocido en sus primeros cuartos de final sobre césped, la subcampeona del Abierto de Francia de 18 años tuvo que remontar un 2-0 en contra al comienzo de cada set contra una oponente que fue subcampeona de Wimbledon el año pasado.

Pliskova se perdió la que habría sido su primera final desde agosto. La checa de 30 años se ausentó los dos primeros meses de esta temporada al sufrir una fractura de brazo en un accidente cuando entrenaba en un gimnasio.

Jabeur, cuarta raqueta del mundo, derrotó 6-7 (3), 6-2, 6-2 a la bielorrusa Aliaksandra Sasnovich para avanzar a las semifinales.

En la otra mitad del cuadro, Maria Sakkari, sexta en el ranking mundial, es otra semifinalista por primera vez sobre césped luego de su rápida victoria de 6-0, 6-3 sobre Daria Kasatkina, semifinalista del Abierto de Francia.

La griega se medirá en semis a la suiza Belinda Bencic, que por su parte doblegó 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 a la rusa Veronika Kudermetova.
