El máximo funcionario electoral del estado de Georgia comparecerá en las próximas horas ante un jurado investigador especial que examina si el entonces presidente Donald Trump y otros trataron de interferir ilegalmente en la elección del 2020 en el estado.

El secretario de estado, Brad Raffensperger, fue citado a la corte del condado de Fulton, donde el jurado especial se ha estado reuniendo, de acuerdo con un escrito obtenido por The Associated Press por medio de un pedido de documentos públicos. Otras citaciones solicitan documentos y testimonio de otras cinco personas de su oficina.

Trump dirigió su ira contra Raffensperger luego que el republicano se negó a ceder a presiones para anular los votos que le dieron al demócrata Joe Biden una victoria electoral estrecha en Georgia. Raffensperger venció en mayo a un candidato respaldado por Trump en la primaria republicana.

La fiscal del condado de Fulton, Fani Willis, dijo que su investigación incluye examinar una llamada telefónica de enero del 2021 en la que Trump presionó a Raffensperger para que “encontrase” los votos que él necesitaba para ganar en Georgia. Trump ha dicho que su conversación con Raffensperger fue “perfecta” y que él no cometió falta alguna.
