Paul DeJong disparó un doblete cuando había dos outs de la octava entrada, y los Cardenales superaron el viernes 4-3 a los Yanquis de Nueva York, en el regreso de Matt Carpenter a San Luis.

Los fanáticos se pusieron de pie para ovacionar a Carpenter en su primera visita a la ciudad donde jugó 11 temporadas. Durante la noche, consiguió un par de imparables.

Aaron Judge y Josh Donaldson pegaron dos hits cada uno por los Yanquis. Donaldson empujó dos carreras para que Nueva York tomara una ventaja de 3-2.

Los Cardenales borraron la diferencia en el octavo capítulo. Nolan Arenado conectó un sencillo y Tyler O'Nell gestionó un boleto con dos outs y cuenta llena.

DeJong, quien jugó su sexto encuentro desde que fue convocado de la Triple A, bateó un doblete al bosque derecho, frente al astro Clay Holmes (5-3), para remolcar a los dos corredores.

Andre Pallante (5-4) resolvió cuatro innings en blanco como relevista. Admitió tres hits y recetó dos ponches.

Ryan Helsley se apuntó su décimo salvamento al resolver el noveno capítulo. Retiró a Carpenter con un rodado para poner fin al juego con una jugada apretada en la inicial.

Por los Yanquis, el venezolano Gleyber Torres de 4-1 con una empujada.

Por los Cardenales, el dominicano Albert Pujols de 2-0. El puertorriqueño Yadier Molina de 3-1 con una empujada.
