Mike Clevinger tuvo un impresionante primer juego como abridor desde que se sometió a una cirugía en el codo en 2020 y Manny Machado conectó un jonrón de dos carreras para que los Padres de San Diego superasen el miércoles por 5-4 a los Guardianes de Cleveland en el primer juego de la doble cartelera.

Machado la desapareció en la tercera entrada frente a Zach Plesac (1-3) y Austin Nola aportó un doble remolcador para la ventaja en la sexta. Los Padres ganaron el sexto de sus últimos siete encuentros, todos de visita.

El relevista de San Diego Steve Wilson (3-0) se llevó la victoria a pesar de sus dos boletos en la quinta y Taylor Rodgers lanzó la novena para su décimo salvamento.

Fue un sólido retorno para Clevinger, quien se sometió a una cirugía Tommy John poco después de que lanzó en el primer juego de la serie divisional de la Liga Nacional hace dos años.

Enfrentando a su exequipo y Plesac, uno de sus mejores amigos, el derecho permitió tres carreras y cuatro hits.

Por los Guardianes, los dominicanos José Ramírez de 3-0 con una anotada y Amed Rosario de 3-1 con una remolcada. El venezolano Andrés Giménez de 4-0.
