Un exministro de Justicia de China fue sentenciado a la pena de muerte con una prórroga de dos años por aceptar sobornos y ayudar a delincuentes, incluyendo su hermano, a ocultar actividades ilícitas, reportó la televisora estatal el jueves.

La condena a Fu Zhenghua se suma a las emitidas contra otros altos cargos que fueron castigados por corrupción dentro de la larga represión que comenzó tras la llegada del presidente, Xi Jinping, al poder a finales de 2012.

Fu, de 67 años, se declaró culpable de abusar de su poder como ministro o jefe de policía de la capital, Beijing, entre 2005 y 2021 para ocultar delitos cometidos por su hermano y otras personas, dijo China Central Television en su web.

A cambio, Fu recibió dinero y propiedades por valor de 117 millones de yuanes (16,5 millones de dólares), informó el diario oficial China Daily en julio. El reporte del jueves y noticias previas no ofrecieron detalles de los cargos que se imputaban al hermano de Fu, Fu Weihua.

Las condenas a muerte con prórroga suelen intercambiarse por penas de prisión largas si se considera que el condenado se ha reformado.

Si se le conmuta la pena, Fu será sentenciado a cadena perpetua sin posibilidad de libertad condicional, agregó CCTV.
