Las maniobras militares de China dirigidas a Taiwán, que incluyeron el lanzamiento de misiles que cayeron en la zona económica exclusiva de Japón, representaron una “escalada significativa”, afirmó el viernes el secretario de Estado de Estados Unidos, Antony Blinken.

Beijing inició los ejercicios tras la visita de la presidenta de la Cámara de Representantes estadounidense, Nancy Pelosi, a Taiwán esta semana, que enojó al gobierno chino.

“China ha optado por reaccionar de forma exagerada y utilizar la visita de Pelosi como un pretexto para incrementar la actividad militar provocativa dentro y en las inmediaciones del estrecho de Taiwán”, dijo Blinken en una conferencia de prensa en la capital de Camboya, Nom Pen, donde participa en una cumbre del bloque ASEAN.

Blinken añadió que Washington muestra su “firme solidaridad" con Japón luego de las “peligrosas acciones que ha emprendido China".
