Airbnb dejará de representar propiedades de alquiler a corto plazo en China y centrará su negocio en el país en atender a los turistas chinos que buscan alojamiento en el extranjero

Airbnb Inc. anunció el martes que dejará de representar propiedades de alquiler a corto plazo en China y centrará su negocio en el país en atender a los turistas chinos que buscan alojamiento en el extranjero.

De esta forma, Airbnb se une a una serie de compañías extranjeras de internet, incluidas Yahoo Inc. y eBay Inc., que se han ido de China luego de enfrentarse a una feroz competencia local y barreras regulatorias.

“Hemos tomado la difícil decisión de reenfocar nuestros esfuerzos en China en los viajes salientes y suspender nuestros hogares y experiencias de anfitriones en China, a partir del 30 de julio de 2022”, dijo el director de estrategia de Airbnb China, Nathan Blecharczyk, en un comunicado difundido en sus redes sociales.

Los propietarios representados por Airbnb han tenido más de 25 millones de llegadas de huéspedes desde 2016, según el comunicado de Blecharczyk.

El gobierno chino ha bloqueado la visita de turistas extranjeros desde que la pandemia de coronavirus golpeó a principios de 2020 y le ha dicho al público chino que evite los viajes al extranjero que no son esenciales para negocios o estudios.
